Michael Steele for US Senate

A few months ago, I was on my way to work listening to the Laura Ingraham Show and her guest was an up and coming political mover for the great state of Maryland. He is Lt. Governor Michael Steele and his website is: http://www.steeleformaryland.com/about_michael.htm

This guy's story is one of honor and integrity. He holds true to the values conservatives hold and will be an awesome addition to the U.S. Senate. But don't take my word for it, visit his website, and lets get this guy elected.

Farwell to a friend

This last week was vacation for my family and me. Though we've taken short jaunts to the Bay Area where I'm from, we've never really had a "vacation" to visit friends. This was it. We (my wife and I) were able to sit and visit with folks we haven't seen since relocating to Southern California for hours, not really caring about time or money. Eating was the central theme, from the Cheese Steak Shop in Walnut Creek, to the Hot Dog Palace in Concord with cardiac cheese fries. Los Ponchos in Pacheco, to Giant Chef is Pleasant Hill. It was as good as it gets. Just catching up with the latest events with friends, and playing tourist in our hometown. It was all very refreshing...

However, this post isn't about my vacation, but about saying goodbye to a friend who was an Icon to me.
Jon Davies was a man who stood above just about everyone around him. Not because he was tall, but because he was a man of integrity. He lived his life with brutal honesty, but you always knew where he stood, and he earned the respect of his peers and subordinates alike. Jon was involved with Special Ops in Viet Nam before there were Special Ops, and was the sole survivor of a downed Huey, but would rarely discuss that time in his life.
Jon was a great leader and mentor to many men in our trade, and touched the lives of anyone who knew him. He influenced the direction of my career as I would often seek his advice on decisions I faced.
Jon was killed a couple of weeks ago doing what he liked to do... ridinng his Screaming Eagle Road King harder and faster than anyone else in Arizona. I don't know all the details, but I knew Jon and his passion for life.
I was fortunate enough to be in the Bay Area at the time of his "memorial", but would have gladly made the 500 mile drive to honor my friend.
I'll miss him… a lot.

Carter Seeks Vote in U.N. Against Bolten and the U.S.

Little Green Footballs:
Ex-president Jimmy Carter is undermining the United States at the United Nations, making back room deals with totalitarian regimes including Cuba, Egypt, and Pakistan: http://www.nysun.com/article/28484.
President Carter personally called Secretary of State Rice to try to convince her to reverse her U.N. ambassador’s position on changes to the U.N. Human Rights Commission, the former president recalled yesterday in a talk in which he also criticized President Bush’s Christian bona fides and misstated past American policies on Israel.
Mr. Carter said he made a personal promise to ambassadors from Egypt, Pakistan, and Cuba on the U.N. change issue that was undermined by America’s ambassador, John Bolton. “My hope is that when the vote is taken,” he told the Council on Foreign Relations, “the other members will outvote the United States.”
While other former presidents have tried to refrain from attacking the sitting chief executive, Mr. Carter’s attacks on President Bush have increased. The episode he recounted yesterday showed how he tried to undermine officials at lower levels in an effort to influence policy.
The story, as Mr. Carter recalled, began with a recent dinner for 17 he attended in New York, where the guests included the president of the U.N. General Assembly, Jan Eliasson; an unidentified American representative, and other U.N. ambassadors from “powerful” countries at Turtle Bay, of which he mentioned only three: Cuba, Egypt, and Pakistan. The topic was the ongoing negotiations on an attempt to replace the widely discredited Geneva-based Human Rights Commission with a more accountable Human Rights Council.
“One of the things I assured them of was that the United States was not going to dominate all the other nations of the world in the Human Rights Council,” Mr. Carter said. However, on the next day, Mr. Carter said, Mr. Bolton publicly “demanded” that the five permanent members of the Security Council will have permanent seats on the new council as well, “which subverted exactly what I have promised them,” Mr. Carter said.

I tried to find out in what capacity JC is serving in and discovered this:

(fact): This is a quote from Wikepedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Carter

"In the decades since he left office, Carter has been seen by some people as an elder statesman and international mediator, and has used his prestige as a former president to further many charitable causes."

(opinion):
I think some may consider him an Elder Statesman, but the rest of us consider him a raving lunatic! He is NOT acting in an official capacity, and does NOT represent the Government of the United States, but is only a voluntary screwball using his former presidency as influence.

(fact):
In his book, he compared the radical Islamist to Christian Evangelists like Billy Graham and Greg Laurie.

(opinion):
It really is time to send that old horse to the glue factory.
